In this article, we are not going to talk about chicken breasts; we are going to talk about females and one very important part of their bodies: their breasts. Breasts have two functions; the first one that every one likes, is for pleasuring and the other function, is for the nutrition of babies.

The Importance of Healthy Breasts

What is cancer?
Cancer is defined as the uncontrolled division of cells and their ability to spread to adjacent tissue either through invasion, direct growth or by metastasizing into distant sites. Beast cancer occurs when this uncontrolled division of cells happens in the breasts. Breast cancer can affect both men and women though it is very rare in men.

It is suggested that women in their 20s perform monthly breast self examinations and visit a physician for a mammogram once every three years to check for any abnormalities in their breasts. After the age of 40, women should continue to perform a breast self examination once a month or go to a doctor to have a mammogram once or twice a year. Nowadays, there are more and more young women developing breast cancer, leading to either a lumpectomy, where only the tumor is removed, or a mastectomy where the whole breast is removed. Losing a breast can greatly affect the image that a person has of herself. Plastic surgery can be used to compensate for the loss but it doesn’t change the altered image that person has after the ablation.

Something that all females at any age must do to help prevent the development of breast cancer is to self examine their breasts. For that, we need a mirror for the first step. Observe your breasts and look to see if they are the same shape, size and color.

The second part of the test is feeling them with the hand. You should touch every part of the breast to feel the inside of the breast. If you’re having your period, you might feel some nodules inside the breast which is normal. Outside of the menstruation period, if you feel some nodules and they are big, it is suggested that you visit a doctor for a mammogram.

For over 50 years, doctors have recommended women to have a mammogram once a year or every 5 years depending on your family history. If there is a history of breast cancer in your family, it is advised that you have a mammogram once every six months.
