Early Riser: Waking Up Early
May 30, 2008
Do you find it especially hard waking up early after a late night of work? If yes, here are some tips you can follow:
1. Sleep Early
Make it a habit to sleep early, giving yourself the sufficient 8 hours of rest to rejuvenate for the next day. You would feel refreshed in the morning and have enough time to prepare for another day, whether at school, work or home. In addition, you won’t be wasting half of your day sleeping. Instead, make use of the extra time you have to do something productive.
2. Move Your Bum
Do you feel like hitting the sack again after waking up to hit the snooze button? Well, instead of placing your alarm clock right next to your bed, put it somewhere beyond your reach, such as your workspace. This forces you to get out of your bed and walk towards your workspace to switch off the alarm clock when it rings. If you still feel sleepy and want to head back to your comfortable bed, I suggest you pay a visit to the restroom and wash your face. You will not only feel refreshed, but also keen to start a new day!

3. Exercise
Morning exercise is a great way to start your day. You feel refreshed and awake after a short jog in your neighborhood. Don’t forget to wash your face thoroughly with cold water to rid yourself of perspiration and oil.
Are you running out of time? Have a good stretch instead.
4. Breakfast
Do you feel hungry but refuse to wake up from your comfortable bed? You should never try “controlling” your hunger. Get up and grab some breakfast to fill your tummy. Leaving your stomach empty overtime often would eventually lead to gastric problems, which can be quite unbearable.
5. Alternative(s)
I will usually walk around the house for about 15 minutes after getting out of bed to fully wake myself up. After the 15 minutes, I will usually drink some water before starting my day. You can do the same, or you can always think of some other creative ways that suit you better.
It’s always good to wake up early and start your day early, whether during schooldays, work or holidays. Wasting half of your day sleeping is not worth it. Time passes by really fast, so try to make use of the time you have by doing something productive or something you enjoy.
