Here are some simple pointers that can help you control those love handles.

• Skip butter or margarine on toast and in sandwiches.

• Add extra (low-fat) filling to a jacket potato such as sugar-reduced baked beans or sweet corn and peppers, instead of butter or margarine.

• Use lemon or low-fat yoghurt as a dressing on salad rather than salad cream or mayonnaise.

• Try to limit the number of ready-prepared dishes you eat - they are often a source of hidden fat - or look for low-fat versions.

• Non-dairy frozen desserts, such as sorbets, are a better choice than ice cream. You could also try freezing grapes and sliced banana for sweet, but healthy, snacks.

• If trying to lose weight don’t take appetite suppressants. They can be addictive and they mess up your system. Long-term sensible eating is a far better way to slim down and stay slim.

• Aerobic exercise boosts weight loss, burning up calories and toning your muscles.

Dieting, a good or bad way to slim down?

Dieting has become an increasingly popular topic amongst youngsters. It is commonly believed that by acquiring a slender, star-like figure, a person will gain confidence and become noticed by others.
The most typical way to diet is by not eating for a period of time and only drinking water or other fluids. While this seems to be an efficient technique, what one loses is only water weight. Over time, the weight initially lost will be regained and a person may actually gain even more weight after reestablishing his or her normal diet and may encounter illnesses like gastric pains.

Weightloss, it’s all about the numbers. Let’s get mathematic and calculate all the calories you need daily, and how much calories you need to get rid off to get to your ideal weight.

Number 1: how many calories do you need?

  1. Get your weight in pounds. (1kg = 2.2 pounds) For our example, we’ll use 100 pounds.
  2. To get your base calory needs, multiply your weight in pounds with 11 (100×11=1100 calories)
  3. Calculate your calories needs for your activity level:
