When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you do? For most of you, it’s heading directly to the bathroom and brushing your teeth. But have you ever thought about who invented this handy invention that not only keeps your teeth clean and healthy, but also keeps bad breath at bay?

The first “bristled toothbrush” was created in China around 1600AD according to Chinese literature. From there, the idea was taken in by other travelers who encountered this invention, leading to it’s evolution into many different styles and shapes. The final results turned out to be what you use 2-3 times each day.

Choosing the right toothbrush:

Alright, admit it, some of you really don’t care about which toothbrush you use as long as it’s a toothbrush which you can use in the morning and in the evening. Choosing the right toothbrush for your own needs is quite important though.

1. If you do not choose the right toothbrush, you will not be able to reach the necessary places that need to be cleaned where bacteria grows and bad breath is produced.

2. If you do not choose the right toothbrush, the probability of harming your gums and teeth will increase, which will make your mouth vulnerable to bacteria and infections.

The correct way to brush?

How many way’s are there to brush your teeth? there is the up-down method, the side-to-side method, and the small circle method. So with so many to choose from, which one will benefit on cleaning your teeth more efficiently?

If most haven’t noticed, when you are using the up-down method, your gums are pushed against their natural standing which leads to loosening gums. This allows small food particles to slip into unreachable places beneath the tissue where bacteria gathers, leading to bad breathe.

If you are using the side-to-side method, your gums will most likely bleed because you are exerting friction. This can lead to inflammation, making it easier to bleed on numerous occasions.

The proper way to brush your teeth is by using small circular motions in a gentle manner.

Note: When brushing your side teeth, its best if you close your mouth and puff out your cheeks a little bit. Which then allows the toothbrush to easily access the furthest teeth at the back without worrying about your inner cheek muscles limiting access.

How long do you brush your teeth for?

For some of you, it’s not about the time, since time is limited for those who wake up late, but then brushing your teeth for a certain amount of time is just as important as brushing your teeth the correct way.

When it comes down to it, the ideal time limit to brushing your teeth, give or take should be from 2 to 3 minutes.

How long can you use your toothbrush for?

How many of you only change your toothbrush when it looks as if it is splitting from brushing too hard? or even change your toothbrush if you see something strange growing on it?

An expiration date does not appear on a toothbrush, but then for those who don’t shake their toothbrush after use, the water that is accumulates at the bristles are allowed to dry on the toothbrush and can harbor bacteria that you would put in your mouth when you brush your teeth the next time, in the future, might lead to bad breath and infections.

If you can, try to replace your tooth brush every 4-5 months. This will ensure that you will be starting off with a fresh new start to healthy teeth.
