Freckles are an increased pigmentation caused by areas of your face being exposed to the sun, due to overproduction of melanin in the skin. Freckles are also known as Melasma. Melasma is a skin condition that causes darkened areas of skin to appear on the cheeks, forehead or above the lips of many people. Freckles are usually a tan or light brown color. It usually develops among middle-aged women, especially those going through pregnancy or menopause. It’s not deadly nor dangerous but it can affect a woman’s self-esteem. The other causes of Melasma are:
- cosmetics like astringents and peeling agents,
- hormonal changes due to pregnancy, intake of oral contraceptives, and anti-seizure drugs, or
- genetic influence.
However, sun exposure remains the strongest factor.

Use a slightly darker shade of foundation at the jawline, blending towards the ears and down underneath the jaw and chin. Best way is to suck in your cheeks, and apply.
